USDA Reminds Ohio Farmers of Crop Reporting Deadlines

USDA Reminds Ohio Farmers of Crop Reporting Deadlines

By Andi Anderson

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is reminding Ohio farmers to file their crop acreage reports with their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office following spring planting. Accurate acreage reporting is required for producers seeking eligibility for USDA programs and benefits.

A crop acreage report documents information about crops grown on a farm, including acreage, location, planting dates, intended use, and other production details. Producers should report all planted, failed, and prevented planted acreage by the applicable deadlines.

In Ohio, the primary reporting deadline of July 15 applies to crops such as corn, soybeans, grain sorghum, potatoes, tomatoes, sugar beets, popcorn, spring oats, burley tobacco, perennial forage crops, and Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acreage. Certain cabbage plantings must be reported by August 15.

To complete a report, farmers must provide details including crop type, acreage, planting dates, crop boundaries, producer shares, irrigation practices, and other required information. Acreage planted after the reporting deadline must be reported within 15 days of planting completion, while newly acquired acreage must be reported within 30 days of purchase or lease acquisition.

The USDA also reminds producers to report prevented planted acreage caused by natural disasters, including drought, through the required Notice of Loss process.

Additionally, farmers can access farm records, maps, and acreage reporting tools through the farmers.gov customer portal. The platform supports electronic record management and geospatial acreage reporting, allowing producers to share approved electronic acreage reports directly with FSA offices.
