The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, in collaboration with the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH), is hosting a webinar focused on preventing heat illness among farm workers. The event will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Experts from NYCAMH, Cornell University, and the U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA will provide essential information on heat-related illnesses.
The webinar will cover topics such as recognizing the signs and symptoms of heat illness, implementing prevention strategies, and understanding the latest heat standards and regulations.
“The frequency of extreme heat events in our state is increasing, which puts workers at greater risk of heat-related illness. We want to ensure the agricultural industry has access the latest updates on the newly proposed federal heat rule along with practical heat-illness prevention strategies” said NYCAMH Deputy Director Dr. Erika Scott.
Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball emphasized the importance of worker safety during extreme heat conditions. "We encourage all farm owners and workers to participate in this webinar and prioritize heat safety," he said.
The webinar will conclude with a question-and-answer session. To register, click the registration link.
NYCAMH, supported by a $1.35 million investment from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, has expanded its services to the agricultural community this year. The organization is dedicated to improving the health and safety of farm workers.
