Winter Camelina Cover Crop Tour in Wisconsin - April 9

Winter Camelina Cover Crop Tour in Wisconsin - April 9

By Blake Jackson

The Winter Camelina Cover Crop Field Tour is set to take place on April 9th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Mauston, Wisconsin.

This event offers an opportunity for farmers, researchers, and agricultural professionals to explore winter camelina as a potential overwintering cover crop option for Wisconsin.

Participants will gather near N3097 County Rd K, Mauston, where they will examine the benefits and applications of winter camelina in comparison to winter rye.

Discussions will highlight key aspects of cover crop management, including insights into drone-seeded versus drill-seeded plots and a closer look at the role of lysimeters in monitoring soil water movement and nutrient retention.

The tour is organized in collaboration with Extension, Farmers of the Lemonweir Valley, and Producers of Lake Redstone, ensuring a well-rounded discussion on sustainable agriculture and soil health improvement.

Experts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension will be present to provide guidance and answer questions about the feasibility and benefits of incorporating winter camelina into crop rotations.

For those interested in attending or seeking further details, Anastasia Kurth can be contacted at 608-477-3018 or via email at anastasia.kurth@wisc.edu.

This field tour promises to deliver valuable insights into cover crop innovations, helping Wisconsin farmers optimize soil conservation practices.
