Wisconsin Farmers Invited to Manure 101 Applicator Training

Wisconsin Farmers Invited to Manure 101 Applicator Training

By Blake Jackson

University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension has announced the schedule for its updated Manure 101 manure applicator training, which will take place at 13 locations across Wisconsin during February and March.

The workshops are designed for farmers and farm employees who apply manure on their own operations, as well as professional manure applicators. To improve accessibility, Spanish interpretation will be offered at three of the sessions.

The interactive training focuses on practical, real-world decision-making. Participants will work through scenarios such as selecting appropriate manure transfer or staging areas, evaluating required setbacks, and addressing safety concerns while transporting and applying manure on roads and in fields. The goal is to strengthen both environmental stewardship and on-farm safety through hands-on learning and discussion.

Training dates and locations include:

  • Dodgeville - February 9
  • North Freedom - February 10
  • Jefferson - February 24 (Spanish interpretation)
  • Luxemburg - February 23 and 25
  • Manitowoc - March 2
  • Chilton - March 3 (Spanish interpretation)
  • Barron - March 5
  • Menomonie - March 9
  • Chilton - March 12
  • Kewaunee - March 12 (Spanish interpretation)
  • Birnamwood - March 18
  • Oconto Falls - March 19
  • Abbotsford - March 23

Registration costs $10 per person. Additional details and registration are available online, and interested participants can also contact Extension staff directly at kevin.erb@wisc.edu, 920-391-4652.
