Wisconsin Farmers Union - 94th Annual Convention

Wisconsin Farmers Union - 94th Annual Convention

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin farmers will converge at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells for the 94th Annual Wisconsin Farmers Union (WFU) State Convention, taking place December 13-15, 2024.

“Our annual convention brings farmers together to share insights and shape the policies that will influence the future of agriculture in Wisconsin,” said WFU President Darin Von Ruden. “It’s a valuable moment for members to collaborate, engage with leaders, and advocate for a resilient family farm system.”

The keynote address will be delivered by Austin Frerick, author and expert on agricultural and antitrust policy. His book, "Barons," explores the concentration of power in the American food system.

The convention kicks off with a pre-conference workshop on December 13th, "Engaging in Respectful Dialogue: Ethanol as a Case Study." This interactive session will focus on honing communication skills for complex agricultural issues.

The official convention starts on December 14th with a presidential address followed by workshops on diverse topics: fair competition in seeds, land accessibility, supporting new crops in Wisconsin, and post-election farm financial analysis. Ample networking opportunities, a Youth Award ceremony, and a celebration of rural champions are also planned.

A fundraising event on December 13th will support improvements at Kamp Kenwood, home to WFU summer camps since the 1940s. The convention seeks donations for live and silent auctions; contact Danielle Endvick at 715-382-6814 or dendvick@wisconsinfarmersunion.com for details.

The final day features elections for two delegates to represent Wisconsin at the National Farmers Union Convention on March 9-11, 2025, in Oklahoma City, OK.

While the convention is open to the public, voting on policy issues is reserved for member delegates. Early bird registration closes on November 17th. Visit www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com/convention for more details and to register.
