A delegation of beef industry leaders, including representatives from the Wisconsin Beef Council, traveled to South Korea and Japan to explore the market potential for U.S. beef. Led by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), the trip provided valuable insights into market conditions and promotional activities.
During the week-long tour, the team attended briefings at the U.S. Embassies in Seoul and Tokyo and received updates from USMEF staff on market trends. They also visited research and development centers, met with exporter members of USMEF, and engaged with various stakeholders in the beef industry.
Participating in marketing activities, such as trade seminars, consumer seminars, and retail promotions, allowed the team to witness firsthand how U.S. beef is promoted and marketed in Asian markets. They also took part in a livestreaming event for U.S. beef with an e-commerce company in Seoul.
Insights gained from the trip highlighted the importance of leveraging partnerships and investments, such as those from the Beef Checkoff program, to promote U.S. beef effectively. Additionally, the team learned about market preferences and challenges, including concerns about food safety and traceability.
The visit emphasized the significance of the Korean and Japanese markets for U.S. beef exports. Despite challenges, such as currency fluctuations and consumer preferences, both markets hold strong potential for continued growth in U.S. beef exports.
Funding for the trip and related activities was supported by grants from organizations like the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), demonstrating collaboration between industry and government to promote U.S. beef abroad.
