Dairy feeder school - master cow feeding techniques

By Blake Jackson

The Dairy Feeder School workshop is an excellent opportunity for those involved in dairy cow feeding. It is designed for current dairy farmers who wish to deepen their understanding of feeding practices, as well as for individuals aspiring to enter the field of cow feeding. Participants will gain valuable insights into improving feeding processes on their farms.

This comprehensive program will cover a range of critical topics, including the economics and significance of effective feeding and feed management.

Attendees will learn the basics of dry matter and feeder math, focusing on how to measure dry matter and refusals, along with adjusting rations accordingly.

Additionally, the workshop will address the importance of feed consistency and conduct Total Mixed Ration (TMR) audits.

Other essential topics include troubleshooting mixer wagons, managing bunk silos, understanding packing density, and ensuring proper feed preservation. Safety will also be a key focus throughout the sessions.

The workshop will run from October 31 to November 14, 2024, with sessions scheduled from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The registration fee is $50 per person, which includes lunch.

The locations will cover South Central, Central, and Northwest New York, providing easy access for participants across the region.
