Farm Bureau Hosts Ag Support Gathering

By Andi Anderson

The Athens-Meigs County Farm Bureau organized an informative landowner meeting on April 1 at the Meigs County Fairgrounds-Rutland Bottle Gas Building. The event welcomed 147 attendees, including Athens-Meigs Farm Bureau members and Meigs County residents who received drought relief funds.

Participants had the opportunity to enjoy dinner while engaging with representatives from various agricultural organizations. They also collected their drought relief checks from the Meigs Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).

Jenny Ridenour from the Meigs SWCD opened the session by highlighting the office’s services and resources for local landowners. She emphasized how the SWCD supports soil and water conservation efforts in the area.

Following her, Michelle Stumbo from the Meigs OSU Extension Office spoke about educational programs available for both youth and adults, covering areas like 4-H, farming practices, and community development.

Kevin Lewis from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) shared insights on federal conservation programs and funding options available to landowners through the NRCS.

Jordan Danford from the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) presented information about various federal support programs available through the FSA, along with upcoming opportunities that could benefit attendees.

The event concluded with Ty Higgins, Senior Director of Communications and Media Relations with the Ohio Farm Bureau. He spoke about the importance of supporting farmer mental health and the overall benefits of being a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau.

The meeting proved to be a valuable opportunity for landowners to gather information, connect with resources, and learn about programs that can support their farming and land management efforts.
