Pasture Weed and Pest Control Training

Pasture Weed and Pest Control Training

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension will host a six-part educational webinar series in February 2026 focused on controlling invasive weeds and pests in pasture and rangeland systems. The program is designed for ranchers, landowners, and natural resource professionals seeking practical and research-based management guidance.

Title “Controlling Invasive Weeds & Pests in Pastures,” the series will run over three weeks, with sessions held on Mondays and Thursdays. Webinar dates include February 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, and 26. Each session will take place from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Mountain Time and 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Central Time.

The webinar series will cover several major challenges affecting pastures and grazing lands. Topics include pesticide regulations and noxious weed control requirements, identification and treatment of invasive broadleaf weeds, and strategies to manage woody plant encroachment.

Participants will also learn about herbicide options for invasive winter annual grasses such as cheatgrass, emerging weed species to monitor, and guidelines for determining when grasshopper populations require treatment.

Sessions will be led by Nebraska Extension specialists, Extension educators, and representatives from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Presentations will focus on clear explanations, real-world examples, and science-based recommendations that can be applied across pasture systems.

Registration for the full series is $75 per person. The fee includes a mailed packet of reference materials, including the 2025 UNL Guide to Weed Management, Weeds of the Great Plains, and a collection of NebGuides and Extension Circulars focused on invasive species.

Registration closes on January 26 to ensure materials are delivered before the first webinar. Interested participants can register online at https://cvent.me/MOo0ka. Additional information is available through local Nebraska Extension offices or at extension.unl.edu.
