Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the winners of the 40th Annual New York Wine Classic, a major competition showcasing the quality, diversity, and craftsmanship of wines produced across New York State. The event recognizes leading wineries and winemakers from the state’s various wine-growing regions.
Ryan William Vineyard of the Finger Lakes received the competition’s highest honor, the Governor’s Cup, for its 2025 Pinot Blanc.
Weis Vineyards, also located in the Finger Lakes, was named Winery of the Year. This marks the winery’s third straight year and fourth overall receiving the prestigious title.
“Congratulations to Ryan William Vineyard, Weis Vineyards, and every winery who participated in this year’s Wine Classic,” Governor Hochul said.
“From the vineyards of the Fingerlakes to wineries across the state, New York’s wine industry represents the very best of our agricultural heritage, innovation and craftsmanship. These award winning producers are creating exceptional products, supporting good paying jobs and helping showcase New York State as a world-class destination for wine lovers everywhere.”
The New York Wine Classic is organized by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and highlights wines from regions including the Finger Lakes, Lake Erie, Niagara Escarpment, Upper Hudson, Hudson River Region, Champlain Valley, and Long Island. Awards recognize excellence across several wine categories.
2026 Best in Category Winners:
- Governor’s Cup / Best White: Ryan William Vineyard - 2025 Pinot Blanc, Burdett, Schuyler County
- Winery of the Year: Weis Vineyards - Hammondsport, Steuben County
- Best Sparkling: Milea Family Wines Hudson Valley Vineyards - Right Bank Blanc De Blancs
- Best Pink: Weis Vineyards - 2025 Zweigelt Dry Rosé
- Best Red: Millbrook Vineyards & Winery - 2024 Cabernet Franc Clone 623
- Best Dessert: Weis Vineyards - 2024 Riesling Ice Wine
More than 100 wineries entered over 700 wines in this year’s competition. Judges included sommeliers, beverage directors, educators, retail buyers, and other industry professionals through the Beverage Testing Institute partnership.
The competition awarded 14 Platinum, 282 Gold, 296 Silver, and 106 Bronze medals, reflecting the continued growth and strength of New York’s wine industry.
