University of Kentucky will Host Invasive Plant Conference

By Blake Jackson

Invasive plants continue to threaten Kentucky’s woodlands, pastures and roadsides, spreading through landscaping choices and hitchhiking on equipment.

According to Jordan Strickler, Agriculture Communications Specialist at the University of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (CAFE) is bringing together experts and community members to address these challenges.

The 6th Annual Kentucky Invasive Plant Conference is scheduled for November 5, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET, at the Boone County Enrichment Center, 1824 Patrick Drive, in Burlington.

The event is organized by the Martin-Gatton CAFE Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) and the Kentucky Invasive Plant Council (KYIPC).

The conference will provide educational sessions and networking opportunities for natural resource professionals, landowners, researchers, and students. Morning presentations will cover invasive plant identification, management strategies, and current research.

“This year’s presentations focus on active management, including best practices for a range of invasive plants and on-the-ground examples,” said FNR Forest Health Extension professor Ellen Crocker.

During lunch, attendees can explore a poster session featuring research findings from across the region. Afternoon activities will include outdoor field opportunities where participants can observe practical management approaches and learn from local success stories.

“We have some great nearby locations hosting tours to share success stories and management in action, including the Boone County Arboretum and Boone County Conservation District,” Crocker said.

Researchers can also submit applications to present their work during the poster session through the conference website.

Registration costs $65 and includes lunch, continuing education units, and KYIPC membership. Students and individuals who have joined or renewed their KYIPC membership since July 2026 qualify for a $35 discount, reducing the fee to $30. All sales are final.

Organizers are seeking sponsors to support conference expenses, including meals, refreshments, student participation, and speakers.

“This conference is a great way to connect to others about invasive plants and their management,” Crocker said.
