Wisconsin grants up to $40K for watershed conservation

Wisconsin grants up to $40K for watershed conservation

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is offering financial incentives to farmers committed to improving local watersheds.

Through the Producer-Led Watershed Protection Grants program, eligible groups of farmers can receive up to $40,000 to implement conservation practices tailored to their specific geographic area.

To qualify, a group must include at least five farmers generating a minimum of $6,000 in annual gross farm revenue. Successful applicants will partner with a local conservation agency, such as a county land conservation department or a University of Wisconsin-Extension office, to develop and execute their conservation plans.

“Across Wisconsin, producers maintain and improve the state’s soil and water resources,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “The producer-led program is yet another tool that producers can utilize as they maintain and improve those efforts. The positive outcomes of these conservation efforts will continue to have a positive effect for years to come.”

The application period for the 2025 grant cycle closes on September 13, 2024. Interested farmers and agricultural organizations are encouraged to submit their proposals. Grant information and application materials are available at https://datcp.wi.gov/Pages/Programs_Services/ProducerLedProjects.aspx
